Samuel A. Mack, 39, of Forestville, was released from police custody Thursday but ordered to stay away from his infant daughter after police say he left the 13-month-old alone in a tent at the Occupy DC camp at McPherson Square wearing only a onesie against near-freezing temperatures. Mack told police he left the infant with another camp resident while he went for food, but he could only vaguely describe the other person and had no food with him when he returned to the tent, court and police documents show. The baby had been crying for about a half-hour when Occupiers found her and called police.
The baby had been turned over to District Child and Family Services, but is now with relatives. The mother was not identified.
