The Democratic National Committee will employ three technology vendors instead of just one in an effort to ramp up the security of its voter file data ahead of the 2020 election, according to DNC chief technology officer Raffi Krikorian.
The DNC had been using only one vendor, TargetSmart, to gain information about voters, such as change of address or consumer history. But now the organization will be using a vendor for data hygiene, a different vendor for consumer data, and a third vendor for social data, Krikorian told Axios.
Krikorian said the new system would increase election security because if one vendor were to be compromised, it would only be part of the DNC’s system rather than the entire service that handles its voter data.
The moved as Democrats continue to argue that Russia worked closely with the Trump campaign to steal and distribute emails from key Democrats, and to sow distrust among U.S. voters. Still, President Trump has recently attacked the DNC for not providing its servers to the FBI for inspection.
Lawyers for Roger Stone, a defendant in the Russian collusion investigation, told the DNC to preserve its databases, records, and servers for inspections in order to test claims that Russians hacked, stole, and disseminated DNC data.
