White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah plans to leave his post after the confirmation process of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has concluded, sources tell Yahoo News.
Shah, who has appeared behind the podium for daily briefings several times, has been leading communications efforts supporting the confirmation process since the Kavanaugh nomination in July.
Sources tell Yahoo News that he was looking to exit the West Wing on a high note by helping Kavanaugh get confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Over the summer, CBS News reported that Shah was planning to leave his post at the White House, but now more concrete plans seem to be in place for Shah’s exit.
Shah reports to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, but sources say he does not want to step into that position should it open up, and he does not hold a close relationship with President Trump.
Although he was seeking to leave his position on a high note, the controversy surrounding Kavanaugh’s confirmation may have ruined his ideal exit strategy.
Kavanaugh’s confirmation has been stalled after two women came forward with accusations that the judge sexually assaulted them in two separate incidents more than three decades ago.
