Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Sunday that President Trump “demeans the presidency” and “doesn’t get anything done” because of his Twitter use.
The New York Democrat was responding on NBC’s “Meet the Press” to a tweet in which Trump criticized his position on the Iran nuclear deal. Schumer said he supports keeping the deal while enacting new sanctions regarding Iran’s missile development and support of Hezbollah.
“The president, as usual, he’s tweeting away but just like with Russia he hasn’t even enacted these sanctions,” Schumer said.
“This presidency doesn’t get anything done. All he does is spend his time tweeting and degrading his so called enemies,” he continued. “That doesn’t work and demeans the presidency.”
Earlier, Schumer said he believes Trump should follow through on an agreement made with himself and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to grant permanent protection to young people without legal U.S. residence, and said he hoped to help pass a bipartisan healthcare reform bill.
“The president is not leading on issue after issue after issue. He should stop tweeting and start leading,” Schumer said.
