Like the rat division of New York City’s health department, a fact checker’s job is (often) repetitive—while there is more than one way to kill a rat, the result is still a dead rat—and never, ever finished.
The Facebook page “Republican Patriotic Party”—touting a very “on-brand” Jon McNaughton painting as its cover photo—posted a meme of New Jersey senator Cory Booker and the attributed quote: “We’re sick and tired of the Constitution sitting in the National Archives, manipulating everything we do.”

Some Facebook users correctly noted that the fake quote originated on the Christian-satire website Babylon Bee, from the article “Senate Democrats Demand Supreme Court Nominee Not Be Unduly Influenced By U.S. Constitution”:
Many in the comment section were either skeptical of the quote’s validity or pointed to the Babylon Bee article. But the majority swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.
“[Booker] needs to be brought up on charges of treason,” one user suggested. Others were a tad more practical. “New Jersey, please help our country, by voting this man out!! God Bless New Jersey!”
The ceaseless extermination continues.
