Although her campaign leads heavily in cash on hand and fundraising overall, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s team pulled out a new ploy by offering supporters tickets to see “Hamilton” with Clinton.
In a fundraising email sent out by Jessica Morales Rocketto, a digital organizing director for the campaign, the campaign announced that Clinton will take a lucky supporter and a guest to see the show in July. According to the info page, the winner will receive free airfare and hotel accommodations, along with two tickets.
“I just found out the most exciting news I’ve basically ever heard,” Rocketto wrote. “Hillary is taking a member of this team (and their guest!) to see HAMILTON ON BROADWAY — and you could win! All you have to do is add your name!”
Rocketto went on to add that her parents were immigrants and noted that the story of Alexander Hamilton was “incredibly moving.”
“I love this country so much, and whenever I hear someone like Donald Trump say that Mexican-American families like mine are criminals, you know what I do?” she wrote. “I put on the ‘Hamilton’ soundtrack and turn the volume all the way up — and I remember that our Founding Fathers would have thought Donald Trump was a massive jerk.”
“This might seem hyperbolic, but seeing this show is something that changes you forever — and seeing it with Hillary? I’m jealous that you get a chance to do that,” she said.
As of the latest FEC filing, Clinton’s campaign had over $40 million in cash on hand, while Trump had a meager $1.3 million, although he claims to have raised millions in the days since the report became public.
