Comedian Sarah Silverman revealed that she was recently fired from a new movie after they discovered an old sketch of her in blackface, despite her having apologized for it previously.
Silverman revealed the recent news during an appearance on “The Bill Simmons Podcast” last Thursday, but refused to say what movie she had been fired from.
“I recently was going to do a movie, a sweet part,” she stated. “Then, at 11 p.m. the night before, they fired me because they saw a picture of me in blackface from that episode.”

“I didn’t fight it,” Silverman continued. “They hired someone else who is wonderful but who has never stuck their neck out. It was so disheartening. It just made me real, real sad because I really kind of devoted my life to making it right.”
The 2007 sketch on “The Sarah Silverman Show” involved Silverman wearing blackface to find out if it’s harder to be Jewish, which she is, or black.
“I look like the beautiful Queen Latifah,” she said in it before telling an African American church congregation, “I’m black today.”
Silverman apologized for the sketch in a 2018 GQ profile saying, “I don’t stand by the blackface sketch. I’m horrified by it, and I can’t erase it. I can only be changed by it and move on.”
