The husband of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer killed while filming the movie Rust, is blaming Alec Baldwin for her death, in addition to “industry standards that were not practiced” on the film’s New Mexico-based set.
Matt Hutchins told TODAY co-anchor Hoda Kotb that it’s “absurd” that Baldwin believes he’s not to blame for the shooting.
“The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd to me,” Matt Hutchins said.
In an interview in December, Baldwin said the gun went off without him pulling the trigger.
“Watching him, I just felt so angry,” Hutchins told Kotb. “I was just so angry to see him talk about her death so publicly in such a detailed way, and then to not accept any responsibility after having just described killing her.”
Baldwin pointed “the revolver towards the camera lens” and shot Halyna and director Joel Souza, according to the search warrant released by authorities and obtained by the Wrap.

Matt and Halyna Hutchins got engaged three months after they met, when he traveled 2,000 miles to Ukraine, her home country, to propose. They were married for 16 years and had a son together.
The cinematographer died on Oct. 21 while the crew was preparing to shoot a scene in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Souza was also injured in the shooting.

Halyna’s family filed a lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and the film’s crew, alleging that Hutchins’s death was caused by reckless behavior and cost-cutting on set.
