Alexandria sheriff’s deputy saves lives while on vacation

An Alexandria sheriff’s deputy was recognized for her “valor and courage” in saving two lives while off duty – and on vacation.

Deputy Teneka King was honored by Sheriff Dana Lawhorne for pulling two people out of a burning vehicle while on vacation in Virginia Beach.

King was driving after midnight when a car in front of her crashed. She was able to pull both the driver and passenger, one of whom was unresponsive, out of the vehicle to safety before the car exploded into flames.

King, 26, has been a member of the sheriff’s department since 2009. Her actions, Lawhorne said, “reflect the finest traditions of law enforcement and the Sheriff’s Office. We all honor and salute you.”
