A federal grand jury charged a Maryland-based Bangladesh national for providing resources to the Islamic State Monday.
According to a release, Nelash Mohammed Das, 24, is being charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to a foreign group he allegedly knew participated in terrorist activity. He allegedly provided the assistance October 2015 through Sept. 30, 2016.
The immigrant was living in Landover, Md., a few minutes outside of Washington, D.C.
Moreover, Das allegedly planned to assassinate a U.S. military member in the name of the Islamic State. According to court documents, the terrorist group had shared identifying information of American military personnel to help radicalized individuals find targets.
If he is convicted, Das faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
