Surveillance video shows sheriff’s deputy standing outside during Florida school shooting: Watch

Surveillance video released Thursday from last month’s school shooting in Parkland, Fla. shows former deputy Scot Peterson standing outside the high school during the fatal shooting, instead of rushing in to confront the shooter.

Broward County Sheriff’s office released the video surveillance footage and identified Peterson, and said the footage “speaks for itself,” USA Today reported.

This week, a Florida judge ordered that the video be shared after multiple media organizations petitioned for its release.

Sheriff Scott Israel of Broward County said, Peterson, the school’s armed resource officer, responded to the shooting in the freshman building of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School within a minute and a half of it starting. He stayed outside of the building for the last six minutes of shooting, never entering.

In the video a man can be seen running towards the building at 2:23 p.m., which is when the initial 911 calls came in.
