Truck fire closes south I-5 in Santa Fe Springs

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) — The California Highway Patrol says a big rig fire has prompted the shutdown of all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Santa Fe Springs, backing up rush-hour traffic for miles.

CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos says officers are diverting traffic onto Interstate 605.

Firefighters were sent to the freeway just south of Florence Avenue at about 5:35 a.m.

The lanes are expected to remain closed for several hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
