The Tea Party Patriots, one of the national groups driving Republican victories in the Nov. 2 election, had a new message for its members Friday: Stop calling Keith Fimian.
Apparently unaware that Fimian, a Republican, had just days earlier conceded the House race in Northern Virginia’s 11th Congressional District to incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly, the Tea Party Patriots distributed his phone number to its members and told them to call Fimian and urge him to attend the Tea Party’s “freshman orientation” for new congressmen.
The Tea Party is concerned that some of the candidates they helped elect were turning their backs on the movement by attending orientation meetings set up by special interest groups.
Fimian was one of three losing candidates who were mistakenly targeted by the group.
“We offer our most sincere apologies to you,” the Tea Party said in its email, “for having melted your phone lines.”
