Tlaib joins Ocasio-Cortez and Omar in endorsing ‘Amo Bernie Sanders’

Rep. Rashida Tlaib joined her fellow “squad” members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota in endorsing Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for president in 2020.

“We deserve someone who writes the damn bills. We deserve Bernie Sanders,” the Michigan congresswoman said Sunday during an event at Cass Technical High School in Detroit, adding that Sanders would not “back down” from a fight with “corporate greed.”

She later released a video accompanying and elaborating on her endorsement. In it, she uses the Arabic word for “uncle” to describe the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate as “Amo Bernie Sanders.”

“I am endorsing Amo Bernie Sanders because he’s not gonna sell us out. He understands that it’s not just about policies and about words, but it’s going to be also about completely transforming the structures in place,” she says.

Tlaib’s endorsement comes after Ocasio-Cortez joined Sanders at a “Bernie is Back” rally last weekend and endorsed the self-proclaimed democratic socialist. Omar has also thrown her support behind Sanders.

Sanders suffered a heart attack earlier this month, forcing him to take a break from the campaign trail. However, he later joined his fellow presidential contenders in the October Democratic primary debate, during which he insisted he is “healthy” and “feeling great.”
