Staff for Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., said her D.C. office has received a series of threatening calls directed at the congresswoman after she disclosed a conversation a Gold Star widow had with President Trump.
Capitol Police, Miami Garden Police, and the threat division of the U.S. House of Representatives have been notified of the calls by Wilson’s staff, Miami CBS4 reported Wednesday. Wilson is said to be safe and has protection.
Trump told the widow of one of the four soldiers killed in Niger this month that her husband “knew what he signed up for … but when it happens, it hurts anyway,” Wilson recounted on Tuesday.
Trump allegedly made the comment while speaking to U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson’s widow, Myeshia Johnson, who is pregnant with her late husband’s third child. Trump called Myeshia Johnson just before her husband’s body arrived at the Miami International Airport on Tuesday.
Wilson was with her in a limousine and heard the conversation via speakerphone, although the White House denied the accusation Wednesday.
Wilson has not backed down.
“I have proof too. This man is a sick man. He is cold-hearted, and he feels no pity or sympathy for anyone,” said Wilson in an interview with CNN on Wednesday. “And when she actually hung up the phone, she looked at me and said, ‘He didn’t even know his name.'”
Wilson also said other people including the driver and other family members of the fallen sergeant were in the limousine, suggesting that they could back up her account. And in fact, Cowanda Jones-Johnson, the mother of the Army sergeant, said Wilson’s account was true.
Trump has maintained Wilson “fabricated” the story.

Trump has politicized calling families of fallen soldiers, and claimed Monday that former President Barack Obama and other former presidents “didn’t often” make calls.
