Donald Trump believes that Anheuser-Busch is renaming Budweiser beer “America” for the summer because of his campaign.
“I think so, they’re so impressed with what our country will become that they decided to do this before the fact,” Trump said during an interview with “Fox and Friends” on Wednesday when asked if his campaign had any influence on the beer’s summer rebranding.
The beer company announced on Monday that it would change the name of the packaging of the popular beer from “Budweiser” to “America” and include other patriotic icons on the can. The new image will hit shelves on May 23.
When asked for the reason behind the company’s rebrand, Budweiser executive Ricardo Marques cited the slew of international sporting events on the horizon, such as the 2016 Olympics in Rio, the Paralympic games and Copa America Centenario. The company did not mention whether the 2016 election had a hand in its decision-making.
Anheuser-Busch was purchased by InBev, a Belgian firm, in 2008. The company laid off 1,400 workers in the U.S. following the acquisition. Trump has been an outspoken critic of job outsourcing.
