Indiana Gov. Mike Pence promised Missourians on Tuesday that Donald Trump would stop America from engaging in multi-national trade deals.
Pence also talked about undoing the North American Free Trade Agreement, which he championed as a congressman from the Hoosier State.
“I’ll tell you what, when Donald Trump becomes negotiator in chief — that term’s not in the Constitution, yet,” Pence said to loud applause.
“When Donald Trump becomes negotiator in chief, I promise you this clear-eyed business leader is going to step out on the world stage just like he did last week. We’re going to renegotiate NAFTA so that it supports job in the United States of America.”
“We’re going to get out of these multi-national deals like TPP,” he added. “We’re going to have trade that works for the American worker once and for all.”
As a congressman, Pence argued that his state “benefited directly” from NAFTA.
Pence is campaigning in Missouri and will head to Indiana Tuesday night.
