Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has taken his first legal action against his old employer after the company fired him over accusations he helped his brother cover up sexual misconduct.
Cuomo filed a demand for arbitration on Wednesday against Turner Services and CNN, alleging that the organization’s decision to fire him breached the terms of their contract and that the company smeared him and his journalistic career in the process.
“Cuomo has had his journalistic integrity unjustifiably smeared, making it difficult if not impossible for Cuomo to find similar work in the future and damaging him in amounts exceeding $125 million,” the filing, which Deadline received a copy of, states, “which includes not only the remaining salary owed under the Agreement, but future wages lost as a result of CNN’s efforts to destroy his reputation in violation of the Agreement. Cuomo now seeks to recover the full measure of his damages against Turner and CNN.”

The former CNN anchor expressed an interest in early December in suing CNN for the remainder of his contract money, which the filing estimates to be $10 million to $15 million. He is also seeking no less than $110 million due to attorneys alleging “Turner and CNN’s breach of the express terms of the Agreement.”
Cuomo’s lawyers claim that he did not lie to CNN about his involvement with the public relations surrounding former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s sexual misconduct. They also claim that CNN executives “actively assisted the governor, both through Chris and directly themselves,” according to Deadline.
The next step in the legal process will involve CNN responding to Cuomo’s allegations in an attempt to determine if there is an actual conflict to resolve or arbitrate. If CNN does respond, it could turn the legal filing into a court case.
Cuomo has alleged several times that ousted CNN President Jeff Zucker was aware of his involvement in Andrew Cuomo’s handling of sexual misconduct allegations.

Chris Cuomo is also facing allegations of sexual assault of his own, with an anonymous accuser alleging that Cuomo propositioned her and harassed her to have sex with him before assaulting her.
