Defense attorneys are seeking a delay in the trial of the woman accused of killing her coworker at a Bethesda yoga store.
Lawyers for 28-year-old Brittany Norwood have filed a motion to postpone the trial in Montgomery County Circuit Court, records show.
Norwood is slated to face trial Oct. 24 on first-degree murder charges in the March slaying of 30-year-old Jayna Murray. Prosecutors allege that Norwood brutally beat Murray at the Lululemon Athletica where they both worked, then pretended to be a victim to cover-up the crime.
Norwood’s attorneys said at a hearing last week that they were considering entering a plea of not criminally responsible, asserting that Norwood was too mentally ill to be responsible in Murray’s death.
In the motion to delay the trial, her lawyers say a not criminally responsible plea is “likely” and they need more time to build the case, according to WTOP, which first reported the motion.
A hearing in the case is scheduled for Aug. 30.
