Brit Hume slams Chuck Todd over letter mocking Christians for believing in ‘fairy tales’

Conservative commentator and Fox News analyst Brit Hume added to the pile-on of criticism facing NBC political director Chuck Todd after he touted a letter that compared the story of Noah’s ark to a “fairytale.”

“I wonder if Chuck Todd also thinks this is a ‘fairy tale,'” Hume tweeted Monday night, along with a picture of CNN reporter Jake Tapper’s Hanukkah celebration.

Over the weekend, Todd hosted a special edition of Meet the Press, exploring the prevalence of fake news and disinformation plaguing the media landscape and public discourse.

During the episode, Todd read a letter that appeared in a local newspaper in Kentucky, which attempted to describe how and why people support and believe misleading or false claims coming from President Trump.

“The more fairy tales and lies he tells, the better they feel,” the letter to the editor said. “Trump is a master liar who knows what makes people feel good and that is what he goes with … Show me a person who believes in Noah’s ark and I will show you a Trump voter. There are multiple solid scientific reasons the ark did not happen. Some people learn this and some don’t, and those who don’t will accept Trump. But can the world survive on fairy tales?”

Todd called the comment “fascinating” and held it up as a good example of something for voters to ponder ahead of the 2020 election.
