McAuliffe team email says ‘kill this’ in response to Fox inquiry on election challenge

A member of Terry McAuliffe’s campaign for Virginia governor emailed “kill this” to a Fox News reporter inquiring about the hiring of a high-profile attorney known for assisting Democrats in election-related legal challenges.

A screenshot shows reporter Tyler O’Neil asking for a response to a post by legal scholar Jonathan Turley saying that the Democrat’s team paying $53,680 to the Elias Law Group, created by Marc Elias, was an “astonishing decision” that indicates McAuliffe may be gearing up to challenge the results of next week’s election if Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin wins.

Christina Freundlich, a spokeswoman for McAuliffe, responded with a short message on Thursday that appears to have been meant for her colleagues and not as a reply to the Fox News reporter’s email.

“Can we try to kill this,” she said in one email. In another, apparently in response to an email that did not go through to Fox News, she added, “To dispute the challenges of the election.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to the McAuliffe team for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

McAuliffe is facing off against Youngkin, the GOP nominee, in the Nov. 2 election next week. The latest polls indicate it will be a close contest, with Youngkin having the edge.

Both candidates have pledged to “absolutely” recognize the election results if his opponent is declared the victor.
