Baltimore Awakening services end today

Tommie Zito feels that God called him to Charm City to lead the Baltimore Awakening program, held during the first week in July, culminating in the final services at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. today.

Joining Zito are congregants from more than 60 Baltimore-area churches, including Presbyterians, Baptists, Lutherans and Pentecostals, who will preach during the day and discuss faith issues at night.

“Baltimore is starving for hope,” Zito said. “Our message is everybody needs a savior: Jesus. Everybody make mistakes and fails; we need God?s blessing on our land right now.”

Zito cites a pornographic epidemic and dramatic amounts of murders, street gangs and sexual abuse cases among children as the reasons for the Awakening, he said.

“Spirituality will solve our problems; The Red Cross, United Way or social justice will never solve the problems; we need to bring the U.S. back to its spiritual roots,” he said.

Zito hopes the revival helps people realize “we lost our communities and churches have turned inward and lost touch,” he said. “[People] are anti-abortion but they don?t even know why, it?s just something their grandfather believed so they do.”

Today?s event will be held at the Evangel Cathedral, located at 7000 Rossville Blvd. in Baltimore. Graphic videos may be shown during the event.
