Power back at Glenarden Woods Elementary

Power has finally been restored to Glenarden Woods Elementary, the only Prince George’s County Public School still closed Thursday after a weekend hurricane downed power lines and caused widespread power outages across the county.

It was the fourth day in a row students have missed classes thanks to Hurricane Irene. It was the only one of the county’s 198 schools without power. The school will open on time tomorrow, according to school officials.

In addition to the four days missed as power was restored, students at Glenarden Woods also missed class on Aug. 24 due to the earthquake that shook the Atlantic Coast.

All told, those students have missed more days of classes than they’ve attended in a rough start to the Prince George’s County school year.
