Wife of ex-California Rep. Duncan Hunter was sentenced to eight months of home confinement on Monday.
Margaret Hunter pleaded guilty to a single charge of corruption in June 2019. She confessed that she and her husband used over $200,000 dollars in campaign funds for personal expenditures, including trips, dinners, and clothing. Hunter was reportedly cooperative with prosecutors and agreed to testify against her husband.
She served as her husband’s campaign chairwoman.
Duncan Hunter, a Republican, served as the representative for a San Diego County district before he resigned earlier in 2020 due to the scandal. He pleaded guilty and will face 11 months in prison.
Margaret Hunter’s home confinement is ordered to begin immediately.
