Man found burning alive in Md. group home

A 67-year-old man died after he was found burning alive at a Fort Washington group home, according to Prince George’s fire officials. A caretaker was alerted by a fire alarm on Saturday morning and found the man engulfed in flames inside his room on the 2800 block of Cricklewood Drive, police said.

The man was rushed to the burn unit at Washington Hospital Center with second- and third-degree burns to nearly 80 percent of his body. He died Saturday afternoon. Police are investigating the cause of the fire, but a spokesman suggeted it could be smoking related.

Officer slays man with history of mental illness

Prince George’s County police are investigating a police-involved shooting that left one man dead.

Officers were called to Upper Marlboro on Saturday following reports a man was firing shots inside a home on Andean Goose Way, according to reports.

When the police arrived, they attempted to take the man into custody but he put up a fight, reached for an officer’s gun and was shot according to investigators. The man, who family members said had bipolar disorder and suffered from a history of mental illness, was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Police have not released the names of the officers involved or identified the slain man.

Protesters arrested outside World Bank

Two protesters were arrested for destruction of property and disorderly conduct during weekend demonstrations at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

The activists marched downtown on Saturday afternoon, demanding debt relief for poor countries and other changes to the international economy.
