Kasich scraps Dulles presser, to drop White House bid

DULLES, Va. — The Kasich campaign canceled a press conference at Washington Dulles International Airport scheduled for Wednesday morning and will instead hold one in Columbus, Ohio, at 5 p.m.

Stewart Young, a campaign staffer, made the announcement to reporters waiting at the airport shortly before 11:30 a.m., which was 45 minutes after the original press conference was set to begin. According to NPR’s Domenico MontanaroNPR’s Domenico Montanaro, Kasich was actually en route to Dulles when he decided to turn the plane around and return to Columbus.

The move comes after Donald Trump won the Indiana primary, Ted Cruz dropped out of the race and Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus announced late Tuesday that Trump is now the “presumptive” nominee of the party.

The Kasich campaign vowed to carry on their efforts to deny Trump the nomination, pointing to a contested convention in Cleveland.

The campaign declined to say if the Ohio governor was planning to drop out of the race at the newly arranged press conference. The location of the conference has not been announced.
