ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A new report says Medicaid costs related to asthma have surged to more than half a billion dollars a year in New York.

A study released Friday by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli found that Medicaid costs for asthma have increased by 26 percent in five years. The total estimated cost of asthma in New York is $1.3 billion when non-Medicaid hospitalizations and treatment and related lost productivity is included.
