Trump teases ‘major trade deal with United Kingdom’

President Trump said Tuesday his administration is working on a “major” trade deal with a top U.S. ally.

“Working on major Trade Deal with the United Kingdom. Could be very big & exciting. JOBS! The E.U. is very protectionist with the U.S. STOP!” Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.

Trump campaigned on abandoning North American and international trade deals. He has met with British Prime Minister Theresa May on multiple occasions.

The UK is expected to be interested in a deal reaffirming trade benefits with the U.S. since it’s on track to leave the European Union by 2019.
