The reason Schwarzenegger didn’t vote for Trump? Coal

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a friend of President Trump’s for decades, but on Wednesday he admitted the reason he did not vote for the Republican candidate last November was because of Trump’s stance on coal.

“The reason why I didn’t want to vote for him is simply because just along the issue that he wanted to bring coal back. I say to myself ‘I’ve been fighting for clean environment since the time I’ve come into the governorship,'” Schwarzenegger told CNN host Van Jones at a town hall on Wednesday evening.

“We have to go and clean our environment. We have to go into a green energy future. We have 7 million people die every year because of pollution. I told him that,” Schwarzenegger added. “Therefore, I cannot endorse you because you want to bring coal. The next thing you want to bring back is horse and buggies or Blockbuster or pagers. I don’t think you are a man of the future.”

Trump and Schwarzenegger both came to politics after successful careers in the entertainment industry. The two parted ways earlier this year after Trump was unhappy with the replacement host’s performance on NBC reality TV show “Celebrity Apprentice.”

Since then, Trump and Schwarzenegger have occasionally bashed each other. Trump slammed his old friend at the National Prayer Breakfast over his bad ratings on the show.

Schwarzenegger said he believes “what ticked him off is obviously the fact that I didn’t vote for him.”
