The 23-year-old man who was arrested and charged with negligent homicide in the deaths of seven motorcyclists in New Hampshire is a Ukrainian citizen with a criminal record.
When Volodymyr Zhukovskyy allegedly crashed a truck into a group of 10 Jarhead Motorcycle Club bikers on Friday, he was free on $2,500 bond in a pending drunken driving case in Connecticut, according to the Boston Globe.
Zhukovskyy was also involved in two at-fault accidents, including that one involved drunken driving; he also pleaded guilty to drug possession in 2018.
At 16, Zhukovskyy was charged with driving without a license, speeding, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle after police found him and another man in a car that had crashed into heavy brush.
Upon arresting him Monday, authorities “located in [Zhukovskyy’s] residence wax packets containing a residue suspected of being heroin,” local media reported.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has filed a detainer request on him, meaning he could be deported back to Ukraine. His father said he had just received a green card. The judge ordered for Zhukovskyy to remain in custody.
The victims of the crash were identified as Jo-Ann and Edward Corr, both 58; Michael Ferazzi, 62; Albert Mazza, 49; Daniel Pereira, 58; Aaron Perry, 45; and Desma Oakes, 42.
