Alec Baldwin reaches settlement with family of Rust victim Halyna Hutchins

Actor Alec Baldwin and the Rust production have reached a settlement with the family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed on the set of the movie Rust in October 2021.

“Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation,” Baldwin said in a statement posted to his Instagram account.

As part of the settlement, filming on the movie will resume in January 2023 with Halyna’s husband Matthew Hutchins in an executive producer role. The original cast is scheduled to return, according to a report.

“I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin),” Matthew Hutchins said in a statement. “All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

The announcement of this settlement in the civil case comes roughly one week after New Mexico District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced Baldwin is “one of the possible defendants” in a criminal case.

Baldwin, who fired the prop gun that contained a bullet that killed Halyna Hutchins on the movie set, has maintained his innocence.
