Trump says Biden keeping schools closed is ‘morally inexcusable,’ pushes for immediate reopenings

Former President Donald Trump says schools should reopen immediately, accusing President Biden of having a “morally inexcusable” position of delaying openings.

“There’s no reason whatsoever why the vast majority of young Americans should not be back in school immediately,” Trump said during his speech at CPAC on Sunday. “The only reason that most parents do not have that choice is because Joe Biden sold out America’s children to the teachers’ unions. His position is morally inexcusable.”

The Biden administration has come under scrutiny over giving indirect answers on a timeline for reopening schools, despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention saying that it’s safe to open schools.

Biden has said he wants to fully reopen in-person instruction by May, but the United States largely allows the decision to lie at the local level.

Schools have begun reopening across the country, though teachers’ unions in large cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco have been resistant, prompting litigation from city officials.
