Former Vice President Joe Biden said President Trump is a bag of unsupported flesh if he really does “not have a racist bone” in his body.
On Wednesday, Biden weighed in on the controversy over whether several tweets Trump sent on Sunday are racist. Biden is leading the field of candidates in the Democratic primary despite several weeks of declining poll figures.
The House voted on Tuesday to condemn the president’s tweets as racist. Four Republicans sides with the Democrats against Trump. Asked if the Republican members who refrained from condemning Trump are racist, Biden instead said the GOP has “lost its nerve.”
“It’s lost its nerve. I mean, this is not — I don’t believe that the vast majority of Republicans in the Congress feel this way — but right now he owns the Republican Party,” Biden said. “[Trump] has, between redistricting that’s taken place, gerrymandering, and unlimited money, he has been able to [control the Republican Party.] It doesn’t make it justified what they’re doing, but I think that’s the reason, not because they agree on all these things.”
Biden went on to say that if Trump is right that he does “not have a racist bone” in his body, then Trump “has no bones.”
