Hours after news broke Wednesday that John Kasich plans to suspend his presidential campaign, Donald Trump said he is open to vetting the Ohio governor as a potential running mate.
” I would be interested in vetting John ,” the presumptive Republican nominee told CNN.
“I like John, had a good relationship with John and have gotten along with him well ,” he said.
But should he decide against tapping Kasich as his vice presidential pick, Trump suggested the two-term governor would still be “very, very helpful” in helping turn Ohio, a notorious swing state, red in the general election.
Kasich, however, has previously said he there is “zero chance” he would run at the bottom of the Republican ticket regardless of who emerged as the party’s nominee.
