D.C.’s child services director resigns

Roque Gerald has resigned has the director of the District’s Child and Family Services Agency, the mayor’s office confirmed. Gerald was appointed in July 2008 by Mayor Adrian Fenty to send the child welfare agency on a new path six months after authorities discovered that Banita Jacks had murdered her four daughters in her Southeast Washington home. Gerald has been serving as an interim director since Mayor Vince Gray took over in January. It was not immediately clear why he resigned. The Washington Examiner recently reported on an inspector general’s audit of the agency that found major flaws more than three years after the Jacks’ children were found. Freeman Klopott
