US Olympic swimmer charged with participating in Capitol riot

Olympic swimmer Klete Keller was charged on Wednesday for allegedly participating in last week’s riots at the Capitol.

Keller, 38, has been charged with obstructing law enforcement, knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct, according to court documents. It is unclear if he has been taken into custody.

Video from Townhall’s Julio Rosas appears to show Keller in a confrontation with police in the Capitol Rotunda.

The FBI was able to identify Keller because of the Team USA jacket worn by the man in the footage.

“We respect private individuals’ and groups’ rights to peacefully protest but in no way condone the actions taken by those at the Capitol last week,” a spokesman for USA Swimming told the outlet. The group declined to confirm whether or not it was Keller in the video.

The New York Times reported that several former teammates and coaches of the athlete said they recognized him in the footage.

According to the Associated Press, Keller’s social media accounts, which were recently deleted, reportedly showed that he was a supporter of President Trump.

Keller swam in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic games. He won two gold medals and one silver for his performances in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay and two bronze medals in the 4000-meter freestyle.
