Democratic voters are reportedly favoring a white, middle-aged man as their ideal candidate to beat President Trump in a general election.
A USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll conducted May 15 to June 15 among 5,108 eligible voters favored a white male aged 41-65.
Voters said that they preferred a white candidate roughly 66% of the time, a male candidate roughly 70% of the time, and a Democratic candidate, aged 41-65, roughly 75% of the time. A small majority favored a candidate that leaned moderate over one who leaned liberal.
56% of those polled said that they believed a candidate that fell into all three of these categories was the optimal choice to beat President Trump.
However, when given specific names of Democratic candidates instead of creating a generic candidate, voters trust Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., far more than any other candidate to beat Trump.
55% of voters said that Trump would “probably” or “definitely” beat Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
