Woman hit by Red Line train

Update: According to Metro spokesman Dan Stessel, the person struck by the train was an 18-year-old woman from Silver Spring.

A woman who intentionally jumped in front of a Metro train Wednesday morning at the Takoma Station is dead, according to Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

The 18-year-old Silver Spring woman appeared to jump in front of a Red Line train en route to Glenmont at 9:29 a.m., Stessel said. The woman died at the scene.

Police and EMS responded to the scene, and police are still in the process of recovering the body.

Takoma station is still open while trains are single-tracking in both directions between Takoma and Silver Spring. It could be another hour before both tracks are cleared, according to Stessel.
