Get artsy at the Italian Embasy

The Italian Embassy in Washington is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Italy’s reunification with the U.S. premier of the “Regions of Italy” exhibit.

The exhibit, which opened Wednesday, features artists from each of Italy’s 20 regions. It has shown in Rome every 50 years since 1861. It’s most recent incarnation displays somber works of the pre-unification era, masterpieces of World War I and World War II as well as kitschy post war pieces from the 1960s. Featured artists include Giovanni Fattori, Giacomo Favretto, Constatino Nivola, Giorgio Morandi and others.

The exhibit is open to the public weekdays through Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The embassy is located at 3000 Whitehaven St. NW, just off Embassy Row.
