NEW YORK (AP) — A man charged with fencing fraudulently bought tickets to sought-after events to aid a cybertheft ring that took over StubHub users’ accounts has pleaded not guilty.
Laurence Brinkmeyer was arraigned Friday. The 29-year-old is one of 10 people around the world who have been indicted or arrested in connection with the case. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. unveiled it Wednesday.
Defense lawyer Stacey Richman says Brinkmeyer returned from his honeymoon a week early to address the allegations and demonstrate his respect for court.
Authorities say other defendants got into more than 1,600 StubHub users’ accounts and used their stored credit-card information to buy tickets. Prosecutors say Brinkmeyer and two other men re-sold the tickets for the ringleader.
StubHub says it detected the problem and gave the affected customers refunds.
