The White House is not concerned that the latest poll from Reuters and Ipsos shows President Joe Biden‘s approval rating cratering to 40%, his lowest in that survey since he became president.
White House principal deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton took multiple questions from reporters on the topic Thursday while traveling with the president to survey storm damage on the West Coast but claimed that other polls are still showing Biden’s approvals on the rise.
THE ‘MEH’ PRESIDENCY: BIDEN’S APPROVALS SLIP AGAIN
“I would just say that there’s other polling out there that shows that the president — his support continues to grow. Certainly the 538 average shows that,” Dalton said when asked if Reuters’s data were a reflection of the White House’s handling of Biden’s classified documents scandal. “I think more broadly, I would say that what the president is focused on is continuing to deliver for the American people.”
“I just mentioned a moment ago that tomorrow marks two years of this administration, and two years in we’re making huge progress on the economy,” she continued. “Unemployment is at a record low today. Healthcare enrollment is at a record high today. Wages are up. We have never seen record job and small-biz jobs and small-business creation. Inflation is down. Gas prices are down $1.70 from their peaks, and so these are the kinds of numbers that I think also matter to the president and to the American people.”

Thursday was the first time Dalton had publicly briefed reporters on any topic, and in recent days, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has repeatedly directed any questions regarding Biden’s handling of the documents case to the White House counsel and Justice Department.
