A senior adviser at the Department of Housing and Urban Development pushed a conspiracy theory that alleged Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign chairman during the 2016 election took part in a satanic ritual, according to a report Thursday.
Former conservative commentator John Gibbs, who now serves as the director for Strong Cities and Strong Communities, made numerous references on Twitter to a false conspiracy theory which claimed that John Podesta was part of a satanist ceremony, according to tweets from an archive, unearthed by CNN’s KFile.
According to CNN, Gibbs used the hashtag #SpiritCooking four times in 2016, the hashtag that was used to push the conspiracy theory which originally spawned from the far-right blogging community.
Radio host Wayne Dupree, known for pushing a conspiracy theory that the Sandy Hook school shooting was fake, tweeted that Clinton was losing support from black voters because her manager took part in “Satanic #SpiritCooking,” Gibbs quote tweeted the message and said, “True, true, and true. #Trump #SpiritCooking #BlackLivesMatter,” according to the outlet.
Gibbs also went after Marina Abramovic, an artist whom bloggers claimed took part in the ritual, saying, “Marina Abramovic, woman at the center of #SpiritCooking scandal, has a Twitter handle that ends in 666. You can’t make this stuff up.”
Gibbs’ Twitter profile is now set to private and he and the office declined to comment to CNN.
