The Maryland State Police superintendent announced his retirement, effective Aug. 1, after five years at the top post. Sheridan worked 46 years in Maryland law enforcement, including 11 years as chief of the Baltimore County Police Department before being appointed superintendent by Gov. Martin O’Malley in 2007. O’Malley has picked current Maryland Transit Authority Police Chief Marcus Brown to replace Sheridan as superintendent.
