Chris Wallace hits Mulvaney for attacking media ‘quid pro quo’ coverage

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace pressed acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney for attacking the media over the coverage of admission of a quid pro quo between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Mulvaney told reporters Thursday that millions of dollars in U.S. military aid for Ukraine “was held up temporarily” for “completely legitimate” reasons. He also urged those concerned about the “quid pro quo” to “get over it.” He later retracted those remarks and accused the media of misconstruing those comments.

“You were asked specifically by Jonathan Karl was investigating Democrats one of the conditions for holding up the aid. Was that part of the quid pro quo? And you said it happens all the time,” Wallace stated.

Mulvaney responded, “Go back and watch what I said before that, I don’t know if you guys can queue it up. There was a long answer about corruption,” before being cut off by the host.

“No, you totally said that,” Wallace interjected.

Mulvaney went on to claim that “the money flowed” once they were certain the Ukrainians were “doing better” with corruption.

The two continued to argue back and forth as Mulvaney attempted to distance himself from his previous remarks.
