A group of prominent Hillary Clinton allies has joined together to counter Donald Trump on foreign policy and military issues.
The political arm of the Center for American Progress helped launch the group, known as the “National Security Leadership Alliance.” The alliance includes influential Democrats such as former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former CIA director Leon Panetta, former Michigan Sen. Carl Levin and former Attorney General Eric Holder.
“We can’t lead if we alienate our critical allies,” Albright told reporters. “We have won every major war with powerful coalitions — not by going at it alone.”
In recent weeks on the campaign trail, Clinton has been especially critical of the presumptive GOP nominee for “alienating” U.S. allies with his “divisive” foreign policy rhetoric. The newly formed alliance stressed that they would focus on coalition building rather than building walls, as Trump has proposed. The group will also actively campaign against Trump’s idea that NATO is “obsolete.”
“This is a group of people that are part of this alliance that know a thing or two about keeping America safe,” Albright said.
She added, “This is a critical election and we need a steady hand of an experienced president not somebody who has no idea of the impact of the crazy words he uses.”
