How Cruz is fundraising off Boehner’s attacks

Ted Cruz’s campaign team proposed John Boehner’s Thursday criticisms of the Tea Party Texan were the result of a cooperative friendship with GOP front-runner Donald Trump, according to an email to supporters late Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Cruz announced Carly Fiorina would be his running mate. Less than 24 hours later, the former House speaker made an unexpected media appearance, calling Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh” and “the most miserable S.O.B. he’s had to work with in his life.”

But Cruz didn’t deny Boehner’s claims. Instead, he welcomed them, writing, “Coming from the godfather of the Washington Cartel, that is a ringing endorsement!”

The second-ranked GOP candidate said Trump gave Boehner’s super PAC $100,000 and asked for his supporters’ help to match the strength of the alleged Boehner-Trump team’s coffer.

“Because while Donald Trump is calling in favors from his Washington Cartel friends like John Boehner and cutting his campaign fat checks from his billion dollar slush fund – I’m counting on friends like you to help push us over the top,” Cruz wrote.

“If Carly and I can’t count on you now, this campaign could be over,” concluded Cruz.
