A former Chesapeake High School teacher has been charged with child abuse for allegedly sexually abusing a 16-year-old student.
Christian Marcel Liverman, 30, of Towson, was charged last week with one count of child abuse and one count of perverted practice.
Three incidents of abuse occurred at the school on Turkey Point Road, according to charging documents.
The abuse occurred sometime from the beginning of the school year to about the end of December, Baltimore County police spokesman Bill Toohey said. Liverman and the student occasionally e-mailed and chatted on the Internet, according to charging documents. The student told police she and Liverman engaged in sexual acts in his classroom, and on two occasions, Liverman pulled down the window shades and closed the door, the documents state.
Liverman and the student then hugged and kissed and engaged in other sexual acts, police said.
Police do not believe the acts were consensual, “or he wouldn?t be getting charged,” Toohey said.
School officials told police Liverman had been employed with the system since the beginning of the school year, according to charging documents. Police said the investigation began after students told administrators about a rumor that a teacher sexually abused a student.
Baltimore County School spokesman Charles Herndon referred questions to the police, and declined to comment. Calls to Liverman?s home and the school were not returned.
Police are asking anyone else who has been victimized or who has information about this case to call 410-853-3650. Liverman is the fourth Baltimore County teacher this school year to face charges related to inappropriate behavior with a student.
Former Pine Grove Middle School teacher Timothy Gounaris, 50, entered an Alford plea last week to committing a sexual offense. In December, Stephen Williams Stauffer, 54, a former substitute teacher, was charged with stalking a Pinewood Elementary student. Parris James McGhee-Bey, 57, who taught at Woodlawn High School, was charged in February with sex abuse of a 13-year-old student.
