CNN’s Chris Cuomo jokes about female pronouns at gay rights town hall

CNN host Chris Cuomo joked about adopting female pronouns during the network’s marathon presidential town hall series on gay rights.

Cuomo made the remark in response to Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris, who said her pronouns were “she, her, and hers” as she walked out onstage.

“Mine, too,” Cuomo jokingly said in reply.

Harris, a former San Francisco district attorney and two-term California state attorney general, spoke about racial differences experienced within the gay community, adding that her first campaign manager was Jim Rivoldo, who headed Harvey Milk’s campaign. Milk became California’s first openly gay elected official when he won his race to become a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1978.

Harris’ appearance on the program was interrupted by a studio audience member concerned about violence against transgender people.

“You’re right,” Harris said.

Fellow White House hopeful Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, was similarly heckled by transgender protesters earlier in the program.
