The vast majority of voters say President Trump’s tweeting habits are harming his agenda, according to the results of a Fox News poll released Thursday.
The poll found that 71 percent of voters say the president’s tweets are hurting his agenda. Just 17 percent see his tweets are helpful.
Trump was widely criticized Thursday for a pair of tweets he wrote in which he criticized a female MSNBC anchor, Mika Brzezinski, for her looks and accused her of undergoing plastic surgery.
The Fox poll was conducted June 25 to 27, before Trump’s new tweets.
Even then, only 13 percent polled approved of Trump’s tweeting compared to 16 percent in March.
Among Republicans, 21 percent approve of his Twitter use, while 59 percent would like Trump to be more careful with his tweets and 18 percent disapprove.
Fifty-one percent of all who were polled say they consider Trump’s tweets to be official statements from the president.
The Fox News poll is based on landline and cellphone interviews with 1,017 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
