DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas officer has been fired after driving past a woman who pleaded for help as her two children were taken by their father who was later killed by police.
Chief David Brown on Wednesday fired Sr. Cpl. Leslie Richardson, who’d been with the force 28 years.
Richardson on Aug. 25 volunteered to assist on a burglary call.
A radio dispatcher later reported shots fired and a car rammed. Police say Richardson drove near a woman who said “That’s him, that’s him, right there” about the suspect. Richardson responded: “Right here what, baby? I’m on a call” and drove off.
Police say Richardson after leaving the burglary call didn’t immediately report being available.
Police later fatally shot Steven Douglas, who pointed a gun at an officer. The children weren’t hurt.
